Freeing Up Some Cash

One of the most common mistakes that people make during a credit crisis is not cutting back on their expenses immediately. This causes problems to rapidly compound.

The refusal to cut back during a financial emergency is not unique.  Most people in a credit crisis are still wallowing in a sustained form of denial.  Even when the writing is on the wall many people in dire financial straits are still hoping that something will come along, such as a lottery win, job or inheritance that will save them. Many are hoping for another loan or credit card to get them out of trouble. If you are doing this, forgive yourself. It is perfectly human. However it may also be time to wake up and face reality when it comes to what is going on with your financial situation.

The first thing you need to do during a financial crisis is take a look at some of your biggest bills and figure out where you can cut back. Being frugal with little things does not always get you out of debt.  Only cutting back on the big stuff, as painful as it, usually makes a noticeable dent in an overwhelming debt.

In order to figure out how to free up some cash to pay your debts you need to break your savings down into three categories --

1. Expenses that can be ditched with little effort

2. Expenses that require more sacrifice

3. Expenses you would only cut as a last resort

Two other good ways to raise cash are by selling stuff and also getting a second job.  Unfortunately the only way to get on top of debt is to make more money then you have going out and either getting another job or scaling back are the only two solutions to a financial dilemma.
