The Worst Thing About It—The interest rates and fees on this card are incredibly high and costly. There are also a lot of restrictions about how you can go about using points – such as minimum expenditures to amounts as high as $50.00.

Who Is It For?

This card is designed for families who are looking for discounts during their trip to Disney World and who want a card without blackout dates. You can’t get this card unless you have a great credit rating.

 

The Benefits

You can select your favorite card design. You can choose your favorite character to decorate your Chase Disney Visa Card.

You get a gift card. You get a $15.00 gift card redeemable at the Disney store for joining.

Gain free entry for up to six people for the Disney Meet and Greet Event. This event which introduces you to all the living Disney characters is held at the Florida  Epcot center at Disney World daily or at the Daily Adventure Park in California Daily.

You get discounts on dining at restaurants at Disney World and Disney Land. However the discount does not count toward gratuities and alcoholic beverages. The card is good for numerous restaurant discounts. You card includes discounts at Rancho del Zocalo, Carnation Cafe and Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port; in Disney’s California AdventurePark: Pizza Oom Mow Mow, Wine Country Trattoria and The Vineyard Room; at Disneyland® Resort Hotels: Granville’s Steak House (from 6:00pm - 10pm only), Yamabuki and Disney’s PCH Grill.

Your Chase Disney Visa Card gets you 20% off Disney tours.  However to claim this you must meet the minimums required.

Keep track of all of your vacation expenses online. You are also able to monitor what goes on in your account with full access to an online account report.  A full expense report can be requested at the end of the year.

You have theft or card loss protection.  Emergency card and cash replacement is part of your credit card agreement.

You have a generous amount of travel insurance. The card comes with auto rental insurance, roadside assistance and a car rental damage waiver.

You can benefit from extended warranty protection. If a product fails you have warranty protection up to $300 as long as you apply for this within a year of purchase.

Zero Liability.  If you claim someone has stolen your card at a Disney resort, then you do not have to be liable for the usual $50 that is usually deducted.

 

The Drawbacks

 

You must spend at least $25 to receive a discount at Disney World. This applies to restaurants, hotels and other services at Disney World Resorts.

There are many restrictions on where you can use the points earned on your Chase Disney Visa Card. At both Disney theme parks you can’t use your Dreamworld points on purchases of DVD, VHS, software media, Walt Disney Classics Collections, Walt Disney Art Classics, original or limited-edition artwork, selected collectibles, food or beverage, Disney Dollars, Gift Cards, Ticket Media, Park Admission, Arcades, shipping or taxes.

Chase Disney Visa Card designs can change without notice. You may not always be able to choose the Disney card design that you want as it is subject to availability.

There is a cap on the points you can earn.  You earn a mile for every dollar spent on purchases – up to an annual cap of  150,000 miles Visa Signature Benefits.

The points on your Chase Disney Visa Card will expire. You must redeem miles within a three-year period or lose them.

The card has a short grace period. Many credit cards don’t begin to garner interest on purchases until thirty days after purchase.  Chase Flexible Rewards Platinum Visa only gives you twenty days.

The introductory rate for is not guaranteed. If you make a late payment on any bill, not just your credit card bill, your introductory 0% rate can be replaced with the costly prime rate. The bank also reserves the right to shorten the term of you introductory period if you do not make a timely or full payment.

No APR is guaranteed with this card. APRs may change to higher APRs, fixed APRs may change to variable APRs, or variable APRs may change to fixed APRs with a month’s notice.

All payments you make to your account will be applied to lower rate balances first. This makes it easy to get into debt.

The introductory rate can be cancelled at the discretion of the Chase Manhattan Bank. You will lose your introductory rate if you exceed your credit limit or are late with a payment or if there is a negative comment on your credit report.

It is way too costly to carry a balance on this card. Thanks to the way the interest is calculated it could be a very expensive card if you did not pay it off in total each month.

This card is notorious for having lots of costly hidden fees.  See the Fees to Watch Out For section below.  The fees charged for your every little financial transaction can really add up and make it seem like you are paying an annual fee anyway.

Fees To Watch Out For

Late payment fee :  Late twice in any six-month period: 24.99% fixed on all balances. Late once during any promotional period: 14.24% variable, 19.24% variable, or 24.99% fixed depending on the number of late payments prior to the promotional period. You also pay 14.00 on balances up to, but not including, $150.00; $28.00 on balances of $150.00 up to, but not including, $1200.00; and $34.00 on balances of $1200.00 and over.

Cash advance Fee : The Prime Rate plus 15.99%.

Overdraft Advance APR : 13.99% fixed (not available in some states)

Balance Transfers : 3%. $5 minimum, $75 maximum

To Summarize –

The Chase Disney Visa Card is best for families hoping to earn reward points and achieve points during a trip to Disney World or Disney Land Resorts. An individual may not be able to make the minimum purchases to receive points. The APR rate is very high and it is a terrible card to carry a month to month balance on or with which to take out cash advances so it is best for those who intend to pay off their balance in full each month and who do not plan to use ATM machines. There are also many hidden fees plus a hidden interest rate of late payment that could really add up and wipe out any savings made with reward points.
