First Digit Identification
Each of the three big credit companies has it’s own identifying digit. It is the first digit on every credit card. The first number on a MasterCard is always a 5. It is always a 4 for a Visa, a 6 for Discover and a 3 for American Express. The remaining card numbers signify the bank number and your personal credit card account number.
