What is the Annual Fee?  Is there an annual fee for the card, and if so how much is it? Fees can start as high as $75, and it may take you more than $8,000 in yearly charges to earn this back. You may be lucky enough to find a card without an annual fee.


What’s the APR?  You always want to compare the APR offered by each card, especially if you often carry a balance. Also, check to find out if the APR is an introductory rate, fixed rate or variable rate.

What other fees are there? There are other fees that are often overlooked when comparing credit card offers.  These may be charged for cash advances, balance transfers, late payments, and exceeding the credit limit.



Are there Travel Restrictions? Pay close attention to the rules for using the airline miles that you accumulate. Some credit cards that offer airline miles have certain travel restrictions. You may only be able to travel to certain locations or on certain dates. You may also need to book a flight well in advance to avoid other complications. There may be blackout dates during which you will not be able to use accumulated miles towards the purchase of airline tickets, and blackout dates usually fall during high demand season. You might even have to use a certain travel agent when you book your trip.

What airlines can you use? You might only be able to use your airline miles for certain airlines. This may have an impact on how comfortable you feel and how enjoyable the experience is for you.  Then again, you may only be looking for the best deal on miles and this may not matter to you.


Do the miles expire?  Find out how soon you have to use the miles that you earn.  Yu won’t benefit from the miles you earn if they expire before you actually have a chance to redeem them.  If you’re saving for a dream vacation in the future, make sure that the points will still be valid.

How many miles are needed for a ticket? It can make a big difference when you consider how many miles you will need to earn before you can actually redeem a ticket. There are some airline credit cards that automatically credit you points when you first open the account. There are also some programs that give you double points or miles for purchasing plane tickets. Find out how long it will take you to actually earn a trip.
